Thanks again Procrastinator for your long reply, it really helps!

- The squeaking sound definitely comes from the machine itself, not the pump. I think it may come from a small leak from the pipe that goes to the pressure gauge. I just installed a new gauge and probably didn't fasten one of the two copper pipes tightly enough. I'll try your suggestion of using a plastic tube like a stethoscope to find the source.

- Regarding the pressure problem, yes, the gauge shows max pressure in the sense that the needle goes all the way to right (max possible). That's why I'm so concerned, I stop the water flow immediately.

- Regarding the steam issue, the boiler does go up to the required pressure. The boiler heats as it should. I will try taking apart the steam wand, it does look like something is stuck further up. If that doesn't help, I'll try out your great idea on switching the hot water valve and the steam valve.

- Thanks for sending me the diagram, my email address is on my profile.

I will follow your advice and first try to solve these problems before taking everything apart. I'm quite optimistic for the steam issue, more worried about pressure problem. Does anyone have any idea why the pressure could shoot up like that?

Thanks again for all your help and ideas. I couldn't do this without my fellow coffee geeks!

I hope some espresso machine experts are still reading this thread, because I really need some help!

I now have a little more time on my hands so I've done some work on the Pavoni P3V2 I'm trying to fix.

As a quick reminder, these are the two issues I'm tackling:
- Pressure gauge shows maximum brew pressure (accompanied by a squeaking sound).
- No steam.

This is what I've done so far:
- Rebuild of the steam wand and valve. I soaked the various parts in citric acid and put everything back together.
- Cleaned the copper pipe that goes from water inlet to the pressure gauge, and the copper pipe that goes from the water inlet to the "spitter box" that leads to the heat exchangers. I soaked both pipes in citric acid.
- Descaled the heat exchanger with citric acid.
- Cleaned the heads by backflushing with trisodium phosphate (TSP).

This is what happens now:
- Still no steam coming out as the boiler is heating up, bubbles form on top of the sight glass, as if steam was coming out of there. (see picture)
- Brew pressure is still very high, but no longer at maximum (around 15 bar).
- There's still a loud squeaking sound, I'm still trying to figure out where it originates from.

If anyone has any clue to what is going on, please share your ideas.

Thanks!
