Subject: Converting Pavoni professional from 220 to 110V?
 

Hey espresso gurus!

Just relocated back to the US from Germany, was wondering about tips to convert my Pavoni pro (bought second hand for a song in Munich) from 220 to 110.. I know it is a pretty "do-it-yourself" machine.. the 110-220 step up adapters are just hideous monsters and think the Pavoni is 1000+ watts, so would need a  step-up the size of a small appliance...

Why not just get 220V service?  That what commercial machines run on, and also your electric range.

I may be mistaken but I believe there is also the issue of 50 cycle v. 60 cycle. Suggest you double check to see if that's also an issue.

Of course, this issue doesn't effect the heating element---Just the pump.   And its close enough that I would think it would work for either.  A call to the manufacturer (or distributor) should confirm this.

There may be other things which need adjustment, but that's a lot easier than conversion.

I agree that installing a 220V line would be easier and less costly.  Raoul mentioned in the thread Using 220V Silvia in the U.S. that his 220V Silvia/Rocky were labeled as 50/60Hz, so the Pavoni should be fine on a U.S. 220V line if it is labeled similarly.  If you don't mind locating your espresso machine next to your electric oven, you're already 90% done.

Running a 12 gauge romex to a new 220VAC outlet from your distribution box is a simple task, much cheaper than a conversion.  I'm doing this now for my 220V roaster.
