Subject: Gaggia Classic with Invensys pump. How measure OPV adjustment?

...searched everywhere and can't find a chart. Anyone know what sort of bypass flow (using a backflush disk) that I should get if I've properly adjusted the OPV to around 9 bar?

I think it's at 50ml/30 sec right now ...

TIA

There was a thread on CoffeeSnobs regarding this. Most people say not to do it this way and use a pressure gauge instead. There's a woman on the Gaggia Group at Yahoo that will let you borrow a nice pressure gauge for your Gaggia and you only have to pay shipping. Later!

Yeah I forgot to mention that her name is Susan. That is a great group to join for all Gaggia users. Later!

The ladys name is Susan and there is a deposit required, understandably so.

Although, doesn't it seem like there'd be a pretty consistent number floating around out there? i.e. those that have the invensys pump that have calibrated to 9.5 bar (or so..) using an actual pressure gauge end up with bypass flow rates of approximately "x"?

Is there that much variation between individual pumps of the same make and model?

I agree, but most people won't give you much info saying it's better to use a pressure gauge. But do a search for CoffeeSnobs and there is a topic in an area called "Midpriced $500-$1500" (or something like that) regarding a Gaggia Classic pressure adjustment and they may have what you're looking for. I'd post a link if I knew how. Not much of a computer geek as I'd rather be doing other things with my time. Later!

Dilrods, here you have Invensis' website pag for coffee machines' pumps:

According to the web page your pump model should be either CP1, CP2, CP3 or CP4 (or an older model not featured in the page). You'll find the specs in a PDF in the same page. There are no flow vs pressure curves, all you'll find are things like that the CP3A model pumps 100 cc/minute minimum at 10 bars.

The_Shadow, I believe these are the links:

A bit more research has produced this chart:

(The green line shows the Invensys CP3A)

from this topic at coffeesnobs.com.au:

When looking at the pressure charts there's something that I can't work out... According to the charts, the higher the pressure the lower the flow rate, shouldn't it be the opposite? What am I missing?

If a vibe pump is similar to what's on a pressure washer then no. On my pressure washer the higher the pressure you have the lower the flow. The nozzle can either have a smaller orifice for greater pressure and less flow or a larger orifice for more flow and less pressure. Kind of hard to have both. Later!
