hello everyone, i am brand new on this site and frankly you guys are my onley hope, i just bought a second hand la cimbali jr wich was supposed to work perfectly.... and it doesn't. since i am reasonably handy i decided to take it a part with no luck so far... the problem is as follows: I plug it in, it fils up, starts heating but doesn't stop, it just keeps going untill steam and water starts squiting out of of the overpressure valve(?) on top of the machine... since this is the first espresso machine i take apart i have notting more than a general understanding of how it works... isn't there some kind of pressure or temperature sensor wich decides when to stop heating and how can i check if this is working propperly?? can anyone help me? by the way sorry for my bad english i hope it makes sence....

Welcome to CoffeeGeek. Does your machine have the little colored ball in the sight glass that shows through the front panel above the drip tray? If so, does the ball rise up above the "max" level before you see the water and steam coming out of the top? Also, is yours the Junior with a water tank or is it connected to a water supply line from your water pipes? At first thought it sounds to me like the boiler is overfilling which is what happened with mine before I fixed it. It is normal for steam to come out of the top as it heats up, and when pressure builds up the overpressure anti-syphon valve will seal up with an o-ring and most of the steam should stop, but if you are having water pouring out then it could be the boiler overfilling.

Your machine sounds as it has an auto fill function. That said there is a wire attached to a level probe on the top side of the tank. There is scale deposits on the probe causing the machine to overfill. After turn the machine off and making sure you can work on the machine cold, remove the wire, then the probe, and drain down water half way. Soak the probe in citric acid and then wash the probe clean. Reinstall probe and wire and power it up. This should solve the issue.
