I'm looking to get a new (to me) espresso machine ($600 budget) and am strongly considering a lever and was hoping to get some advice.
Some basic info: I currently have a Gaggia Coffee, make 1-2 espresso drinks a day (more on the weekend) and roughly 1/2 or so are milk based. I'd like to see this number go down but the wife likes her lattes and I gotta keep her happy!
My first thought is go with a Europiccola but I keep finding myself researching and scouring ebay for Arrarex and La Peppinas. I love the look and simplistic/minimalistic approach of these and I'm thinking If I keep the Gaggia close by I can steam on that and pull shots on the LP or Arrarex (or similar lever).
I have access to metal/fabrication shop and work engineers/fabricators that dig helping me with the occasional one-off personal project so rebuilding equipment isn't a big scare (yet!).

The Europiccola is a great choice for someone getting into home lever machines. But before getting into further detail on machines, what grinder are you using? This should be your first consideration if you're looking to improve quality in the cup. Are you using fresh roasted coffee?

Thanks for the reply! I'm currently using an OE Lido and beans are home-roasted. Eventually I'd like to upgrade to a dedicated espresso grinder but I seem to get pretty good shots on my current machine with the Lido. Think a Europiccola would do ok on that?
Get your self a used lever machine, and buy a frothing wand. They aren't hard to use and can froth milk just as good and fast as a conventional steam wand.. Heat up time is only a minute (for the milk).
