Hey everyone,
I am looking at getting a (used) lever espresso machine, mostly because of all the control I will have over each shot. I drink mostly straight espressos/ristrettos, but enjoy the occasional milk drink. I hear that the steamer on the La Peppina is a joke, so am leaning a bit towards the Microcimbali. Which should I buy?

If you want full control then go with a full manual lever, like a La Pavoni. They are great little machines and pretty solid and dead reliable. My 40 year old LP is still kicking and can easily go another 40 years. The Peppina and Microcimbali are spring levers but you're right, the Peppina is not really a steamer. The issue with the Microcimbali is the aluminum boiler which can heavily corrode at times. Also, are you prepared to do full tear downs of these machines if necessary? Some of these are quite old and will need some maintenance or reconditioning. What's your budget? Do you have a good grinder?
