I just bought this used Europiccola machine and the scale at the bottom of the boiler is very thick. Should I return it or will a descale work on such a heavy buildup?
That doesn't look bad at all. But then, I live in an area with really hard water.
I would use a solution of food grade citric acid in water (soft or distilled water if possible). Fill the boiler and let it heat up and sit for an hour. Flush and repeat as necessary.
That's not too bad. As mentioned, a dose of hot water and citric acid should do the trick. With the cap off, heat the tank to boiling and turn it off. Do not lift the lever to run through the group head. Allow to sit 1 to 2 hours. Unplug. With mitts, pour out citric acid solution and inspect. You might need to repeat.
Mix the citric acid and hot water in a measuring cup. Use about 1 tbls for the La Pavoni.
