Is this manufacturing date a guarenteed 51mm basket & tamper?
Thanks Scott

See the picture of two machines in this thread:  http://www.home-barista.com/levers/identifying-year-of-la-pavoni-europiccola-millenium-t9707.html
the one on the left is pre-, the right is post-millenium.

By the shape of the group, looks like mine is a pre.
I just saw a thread that said the millenniums started  August 2000.
Mine says April 2000
So I'll be ordering a 49mm double basket & tamper I guess.
I'll probably be posting a lot of questions till I get my s--t together

Look in the group.  Plastic sleeve=millenium.   No plastic sleeve=PRE.

Would looking in the group require taking off the screen?
I'm a bit shaky that I may damage something.
Is it a simple thing to do?

This is in my opinion the easy way to measure
http://espressocare.com/PavoniGroupsCompare.html

but like Dough says

sleeve versus NO sleeve
eventually you have (MUST) remove the screen/gasket for cleaning anyway
