Subject: Price Help - Used Baratza Vario

Found someone who has a used Baratza Vario for sale. He is asking $400. Looks like I can find refurbed units direct from Baratza when available for $360. Any thoughts on his price and what I should try to buy it for? Or should I just stick to a new/refurb unit? Below is his answer to my condition questions. Would the burrs need replaced based on that usage?

"Thanks for the e-mail. Iíve had the grinder for approximately three years and have put, on average, about two 12 oz bags of single-origin coffee through it each month and I clean the burrs with a set of dedicated coffee brushes after each bag of coffee."

Thanks everyone for your help!

The refurbs from Baratza come with a 1 year warranty just like their new units do.

Baratza Warranty Page

I've bought a few refurbished units including a Vario-W directly from Baratza and have been very satisfied with the condition and performance of the units and when I had an issue their customer service was above and beyond what I expected I would receive.

Unless you can get a used unit from a private for 1/2 to 2/3 or less below the refurb price from the manufacture you are not getting any price/value offset from the loss of the 1 year manufacturer's warranty.

This guy is crazy. I would pay no more than $250 for one with that much use.

$400, and that old and use, may as well buy a new one. You can get refurbed Varios for cheaper and warrantied. Some online resellers on eBay also let them go for a nice discount with "best offer" option.

I'm actually about to pull the trigger on a brand new Vario for $369. :) Merry Christmas to me! Now to get some quality fresh roasted beans.

It sucks that the price is so high because I'd rather see someone pass a unit to someone else rather than more units produced, but when the prices are the same, but one comes with a warranty and from the factory, how can you argue...

Good choice in equipment nonetheless!

Hope you enjoy the holiday!
