... my grind setting changes significantly.

Today, I ran out of beans in the hopper, so I decided this was a good time to clean the grinder. I took it apart and cleaned it good. I even removed the lower burr and blew everything out with compressed air and I tried to use a cloth to get all of the oil and residue off of the plastic. I reassembled it.

I was grinding at F1 before cleaning.. now I am grinding a V1 on the same batch of beans.

Is this typical? I didn't readjust the grinder... I just cleaned it.

I have not used, cleaned or adjusted a Vario but with nearly all other grinders, when you remove the burr carrier, the adjustment is going to change. The one exception I know of is with the NS MDX. With them, the u0per carrier is fixed and the lower burr moves. Thus taking the upper off, you do not change the settings.

If this does not apply to the Vario, I am sure I will soon be corrected!

Dean, a good idea is to run the levers up and down a few times before re-assembling. Sometimes a bit of residue can get in there. Compressed air too is good.
Those levers, both Macro and Micro should raise and lower easily with no stalling at the top..
I'd also make sure when you reinstalled the upper burr you pressed down hard till you heard it click in, then slide it into position using the  tool provided.

mmmmm.... I don t remember any tool except the Allen wrench tool  to adjust the grinder. Is there another tool?

Edit... just looked at the manual on their web site.. they do show a tool... but the manual that came with mine does not show this tool. They must have added it to later production. I think I will call them and see if I can get a tool. It is hard to get that upper burr carrier out.

My 200 gram calibration weight arrived today. If you own one of these little grinders, may be a handy thing to keep around. You can calibrate in 10 seconds if you have a 200 gram weight to calibrate it with.

As for the burr removal tool.. according to Baratza they said I bought mine just before they started including them... but they did offer to sell me one for $10.00 plus about 13 bucks or so shipping.
