In case anyone is considering purchasing a Baratza Vario grinder I would like to give it a big thumbs up. The grinder performed flawlessly for a month until I began making multiple drinks at parties, in which I had to chase it to get consistent grinds. I called Quinn, at Baratza customer service. He had me provide him with the serial number. He said there was a very small batch of grinders made with burr supports that were small and some of them were causing the same inconsistency as I was. My serial number was in the batch. Within a week I received a brand new replacement grinder, and a postage paid return shipping label. I can not tell you how refreshing it is to purchase a quality product from a company that backs their products and has customer service that is impeccable. Baratza gets my vote. As for the performance its range is incredible. It allows you to dial in with excellent precision, to get your shot exactly the way you like it. I also use it to grind drip, and it is as easy as it looks to go back and forth. I do not do french press so I can not vouch for that. Now parties are no problem.

I emailed baratza yesterday and explained my situation in detail. I got an email back saying it was probably my tamp pressure that caused the change.....I emailed them back saying there is no way I tamped it so differently that I had a 27 second shot one day and a completely choker the next. Never heard anything else back.....I wish calling them was an option, but I am at work during their hours of operation. So much for the great support I have been hearing about....

Josh, that comment is unfair, and totally without merit. Surely you can take 15 minutes during your lunch hour to call Kyle, or a service tech. You are 2 hours later where you live, so if you called 6PM, it's 4PM on the West Coast. You're attitude shouldn't be so dismissive of a company that works overtime to make things right when something goes wrong. It's hard to sympathize with someone who gives up so easily.

It is actually a 3 hour time difference. But this is not the place for me to get into with you about my job and why I am not able to call. Plus the fact that I will not be anywhere near my grinder if I was able to call makes it seem that email would be a better option than playing phone tag every day. I got an email back just now from them asking if I was able to dial it in again, but the problem still persists. I got a decent shot after grinder a little coarser last night, but tried the same setting this morning and it was a gusher and just reached 7 bars on my machine. Hopefully I will get a helpful response back from them soon. I dont feel like I should be having such a problem with a brand new grinder. It is starting to seem easier just to exchange it for a new one.
