How is telling someone how they should have done it better a recommendation, Dave? I don't get it. It's like pointing out their mistakes. Wouldn't it be better to tell them how they can make improvements? Ok, we'll to be fair you did recommend a Preciso, but that was less than half of the post.

New to the thread but, but thought I oughta way in. New to making espresso as well. Recently bought a used Silvia, took it home to my Breville Smartgrinder and went to work. I personally have been dissatisfied with the performace of the Breville grinder. It's awesome for pour over I think, pretty good consistency, easy to use, clean, etc... But for my espresso ot just doesn't do the trick.
At first I couldn't get a shot to pull longer than 9-11sec. Terrible. I have two different PF's, a double spout and a bottomless along with three baskets, a single, a double and a triple for the bottomless. After experimenting a little and using the double with the bottomless, I've been able to stretch that time to about 16 seconds with a hand-stand tamp. Taste in the cup runs from mediocre to vomit-inducingly sour. Just bought a Vario off Ebay. Will be able to comment on that soon, I hope.
