Nice Rob! Have you modified it at all? Have you left the screen in the throat? What about the auger above the burrs? Do you find you have to have quite a few beans in the hopper for the timer to work consistently? I have the Major E. I use the single dose button set at about 2 seconds to purge the grinder in the morning. Do you need to purge a double shot to get fresh grounds? Enjoy! Barry

Right now I'm filling the hopper with about 1/2 pound and letting it eventually go dry. I don't appear to see any timing issues as of yet when it runs dry.
The auger appears to be doing its job. It's all so new to me .... It's hard to make any concrete observations until I have more time with it.
I have not completed any mods yet and I'm not sure if I will. Even the finger guard is still attached. The one thing that is clear is that when you make a grind adjustment you have to grind about two shots through before the adjustment takes effect.

There really is quite an adjustment to get used to these big, fast beasts. I used a mini for about 10 years and made some minor mods to it, but i haven't touched the Major. Id like to try a conical some day, but have shyed away from it for some of the reasons you describe, like huge grind retention.

Yes but really it's not that big of a deal that everyone reports. I don't waste coffee. I'm not one to throw out a shot in fear of it being stale. Really I don't taste any difference. The quality that this thing produces far outweighs any other consideration in my opinion. For me it comes down to the quality of the shot and this grinder delivers! I taste flavors I've never experienced before and the crema is divine.
I do love NOT having to put up with the terrible docer that I had on the mini. I have much less coffee mess when I'm finished.
If it's possible for a grinder to be sexy, the Robour is without a doubt. I just love the look and feel of its construction. Even the on switch has this really heavy feedback quality and I love to watch my lights dim when the motor first kicks in. You really feel like you're running something that has the potential of doing some serious damage.
Just on a side note the grinder came packed with a double headed tamper and beautiful stainless tamping stand. It looks like Mazzer is upping their game in terms of value. Perhaps it's to be competitive with the cheaper K10?
