My new Brewtus IV just got unboxed. Have pulled about a dozen shots - all near perfect or perfect. No temp surfing etc. I would NEVER buy a non-PID machine again. Ever. Never ever.
Congratulations -- hope you and your Brewtus are happy together. From all reports, it's a fine machine. OTOH, I probably pull half a dozen to a dozen shots a day on my HX machines, and all are "near perfect or perfect," too. I would never -- circumstances permitting, of course -- buy a non-plumbed in machine again. Ever. Never ever! ;^)

When I 1st got into this coffee thing awhile back I went @ it backward mostly because I did not do my homework so I purchased the Machine and skimped on the Grinder & believe U me that was a mistake. One should go for the Grinder 1st to get the required quality grind which can only come from a "good grinder". U have the Rocky Grinder it will give U good service & grind so go for the Espresso Machine. Go for that Machine with gusto and enjoy both items because together they will serve you well.
Yeah, even on a Boxing Day sale price it is still nuts. I added the naked portafilter too. WHat the heck - it is only money. I have to say the PID machines are the best (so far anyway). I know LeLit makes one for about $650 and there's that new Arduino open-source PID machine coming out for around $450 that might be worth a look. But for now Brewtus IV is my best friend.
I know the grinder is important (I actually have 4 of them; two manual and two electric and each was better than the other). And they do make a difference to be sure. But the PID removes one more variable in making a great coffee. Even the Mrs. likes it (although not the price!)
