I just won a rancilio Sylvia on eBay to replace my aging saeco aroma. I currently have a baratza maestro grinder that is several years old and I was wondering if that is a enough grinder for the Silvia or do I need to start saving more money to upgrade ASAP. The reason I ask is my friend tells me his capresso infinity does a better job than the maestro.

start saving. you'll get by until you get a better grinder, but when you do...wow, will you know a difference. I'd rec shooting for a Baratza Preciso refurb. then you'll be able to tell your friend his infinity is crap (which it is for espresso). the maestro was my first grinder, and I didn't know what I was missing until I got my Rocky. then I didn't know what I was missing until I got my first Macap M4.
Coffeenoobie came up with this great idea to keep a little jar next to your machine, so you can tip yourself every time you make a drink. I also throw all of my loose change in there when I get home from an outing.
...guess Wayne beat me to it :)

Definitely save up. Moving from the Rocky to the Super Jolly was a massive improvement for me. That said, there are other good grinders in lower price brackets that would pair well with the Silvia. +1 for a Preciso or better.
