Hi all,
I recently acquired a second hand La Pavoni ZIP grinder that is functioning well. However, it appears as though it has never been cleaned before as there is coffee residue in every single nook and cranny and grounds everywhere. I have two separate questions:
1) Is there a product/solution I can use to help remove the buildup of rancid coffee?
2) I've disassembled the grinder from the top down to the plate to which the bottom burr is fastened. I've removed the burr and the nut on top, but am still unable to remove this plate. Anybody have experience with this? I can take a picture if it helps.
I've searched these forums for answers, but have not found anything that specifically answers these questions. Any help would be welcome.

I personally would not remove the bottom motor/burr mount from the motor but that is just me I guess.
Any parts that have been removed can be cleaned in hot soapy water, just like any dish/pot you use in the kitchen. When it comes to the steel parts, just make sure they are dried right after washing to prevent rust. You might put a little mineral oil on a rag then wipe down things like the burrs and other bare steel.
As to parts you can not remove, a blunt scraper and a stainless steel wire tooth brush along with just a drop or so of mineral oil will make short work of stuck on oily grounds. There is nothing like oil to dissolve oil and you need to use an oil that is food safe.
