Lately my grinder has been getting clogged in the chute as I grind. I always have to sweep it out to get the grounds. Just being lazy, so I figured I'd ask here first, but I wonder if it just needs a cleaning, which hasn't happened in about a year (I hate when I probably answer my own question). Otherwise, the grounds come out fine (he-he-he) and I can still make my espressos. I guess it only makes me question it, because my other grinder, Mazzer Mini, never had this problem, even if it went through the same amount of time without a deep cleaning.

I have an MDXA with a flap blocking the exit of the chute. Always has a clog with about enough fine ground to half fill my shallow "double shot" portafilter. Still works but at the end of the cycle the clog remains and is oxidized somewhat by the start of the next session. Wouldn't be an issue if one were running a high volume operation but for just me and my family its a bit wasteful. Love how the big motor effortlessly grinds out the espresso though and I kind of like using the doser so I'm not in a rush to upgrade to a direct dosing grinder.

The A in MDXA stands for automatic. You can remove the microswitch and the associated switch from the doser and you will end this issue as you will have full access to the chute for easy cleaning. I have modded a MDXA in this exact way. YMMV!

I tend to roast to FC, sometimes Vienna. There may be an oily build-up so I plan to do a cleaning this weekend if possible (birthdays, soccer games, football games...who has the time?! I just want my coffeeeee!). But I haven't changed the beans drastically, and it seems to be sporadic even with the same beans, althought lately it's been more often than before.

I sure wouldn't mind seeing a photo of your modifications. Same goes for anyone else who has modded their MDXA!
I picked up my MDXA used several years ago and have never needed the microswitch and flap combination since I never grind more than a dose or two's worth of beans at one time. What I wanted was the best used grinder I could get for small $$$. I use my microswitch flap apparatus simply to hold a "custom" doser lid (a yogurt container lid, since the seller had lost the original).
A better doser lid and doing without my "microswitch" apparatus altogether would give me better access to the chute and make it a lot easier to keep it fresh!
