Espresso: Rancilio Silvia Grinder: Preciso
Posted Wed Sep 19, 2012, 7:20pm Subject: New Preciso questions...
The updated warranty replacement Preciso I received in the mail is slightly different than the older model. I notice the micro adjustment lever moves when I turn the hopper or macro adjustment. I always run it with beans when I adjust as stated in the manual. Does your micro adjustment lever move when you turn the macro adjustment?
The older Preciso micro level had detents that it was fall into. New one slides like it is on a rail with no detent. Does your micro lever have detents?
The older Preciso setting for espresso seems to be between 9 and 11 for most on this and other forums. I was 10G when it was new and before the upper ring started deforming. The newer Preciso setting for me is around 6 or 7. I'm still dialing in but definitely no where near 10. Anyone else?
Remember these questions pertain to the updated Preciso model with the updated rings and gearbox.
New, or refurb? If a refurb, then it was probably just serviced. I was told to firmly push down on the micro adjust nob to seat it properly and then the detents would be more obvious. It somewhat worked. The detents are difficult to feel, but I was also told that the micro would stay in place without being held by the detents. The detents are more to give returnable position. I can feel the detents if I push down slightly when moving the mirco, but they are very soft.
My first was grinding espresso at about 10 and this one at 12 - 13. 10 will choke on this one.
Thanks. Baratza stated its okay for the micro to move when the macro is being adjusted. I also pressed down to feel the detents. I can see how the lever sits up a bit and that is why it isn't catching on the detents. Almost the arm the lever is attached to is too long. No biggie.
I'm settled in at 8H. I guess that is okay but I'd probably feel more comfortable in the 10 range. Probably psychological since I have had such problems grinding fine with my first broken one.
