Today I received a Capresso 560.01 Infinity Burr Grinder as a gift. I'd been looking to upgrade to a burr grinder for awhile and was excited to try it out. I had some older beans lying around that I had purchased 2-3 weeks ago but hadn't used (definitely a bit stale). Because I generally brew with a moka pot, I decided to test my first grind at nearly the most course setting. After grinding, I was surprised how finely the coffee was ground - almost like a gritty powder. I did a few more test grinds and compared finest to most course. There was very little difference, with extra fine being slightly less gritty.
I ended up using a "course" grind in my moka pot, and it was definitely too fine, with lots of coffee slipping through the metal filters. No matter what I do, I cant seem to get anything like a course grind out of this machine.
Am I doing something wrong? Does it appear that I've got a defective machine, or is there something I don't understand about this grinder?

Hi. I had on of those years ago and I have a faint memory that I had the same problem and discovered that I had somehow malaligned the hopper. It's easy enough to take it off and back on again. There's a slot or mark that serves as a guide and I think users manual shows it.

FrankyD - I've looked at some diagrams and photos online and I don't believe there's much that can be done calibration wise - especially if your machine grinds too fine. From what I can see, grinding too course would be easier to deal with - certainly less of an issue for me as I'm using a moka pot. It's my guess that the lower burr is too high, but because it's new I'm hesitant to start tearing it apart.
Bob_M - I've been through the user manual a couple of times and I'm pretty sure at this point that I'm using the machine correctly. The hopper goes on smoothly. I don't have the upper burr in upside down. I can run the machine through all it's settings. There's even a slight difference in the finest setting and the most course setting (the most course setting has a bit more "grit" in the powder).
I think I'm going to return it at this point. I had just planned to get a replacement, but does anyone have any other suggestions for a moka pot user in relatively the same price range?
