My coworker is looking for budget espresso and is probably going to get a Saeco Aroma. The Infinity is $89, and the other option is the Baratza Encore for $129, and I can tell he's not sure the $40 is worth it. If he sticks to the pressurized portafilter, is he going to notice a difference, or does that the special basket hide the inconsistency?
No difference with the pressurized. Let him be for now, then gently inform him of the great improvement with a decent espresso grinder...Encore is purported to do espresso (I have Vario and Preciso). Overall, why buy twice. There may also be a refurb Encore at Baratza.

If I may add a bit, I have two of these grinders. I purchased for drip but saw the mods being done. I modified one of them to do espresso. It will get your in the ballpark but you have virtually no adjustment. The consistency is not there for espresso. These also make a ton of dust. Even on drip, I get some dust through my gold filter. I still have one on my table next to my Vario for drip. They are good grinders, but have tons of limitations when you try to go finer. I got a shelf full of save a few dollars that costed me 3 times what the Vario would have to start with. Hope this helps.
