I am working on my second preciso. Just arrived today as a matter of fact. I unboxed it and fired it up and can already tell the difference. The first one I could not grind fine enough to not get a gusher in 15 secs or less. Havent tried to fire up the espresso yet but can tell a huge difference in settings comparison. Must also tip my hat to Baratza on their customer service. They immediately sent me out a new grinder after about 10 minutes on the phone.

Interesting. What you are describing is very similar to an issue I had with my Preciso this year. It suddenly just couldn't grind fine enough and then it stopped grinding when set to very fine. It turned out to be a stripped drive gear. The folks at Baratza were very good about providing a replacement quickly with no fuss. The Preciso is very good value for the money in terms of the grind quality, but I am curious if Baratza is evolving the components to ensure that reliability is in line with a $250 dollar counter top appliance. I obviously have some observer bias in terms of failure rates, but if I paid that much for say a hand or stand mixer, I would pretty much expect it to mix cement without complaint.

Received the replacement Preciso yesterday but only had time for a quick check. Set to #4 on the Macro I was able to pretty much choke the Speedster which isn't easily done. Looks like they got this one right so it goes to my shop today where it will grind for the Cremina & Strega.

I have a 2 month old Preciso. I'm usually "dialed in" for espresso in the low to mid 4's. I was concerned that it should be finer at this setting, but as long as it keeps working this way, I'll be quite happy with it.

Think this could be an issue with other grinders as well? I have the 2012 Virtuoso, and one day suddenly I got MAJOR gushers. Just terrible. like 30 g at 1 or 2 bar in 10 seconds. A blind filter shows full pressure.
Well now I have it to it's finest and if I tamp like a gorilla I can manage a proper shot.
