Espresso: LaSpaziale S1 Vivaldi II Grinder: Mahlkonig K30 Vario

Sorry, after I typed out the word "girth", that's the first thing that came to mind.
Believe me though, if you saw the size and shape of the K30 up close and personal, you would understand. My K30 was the first I've seen in the flesh (metal?), and the grinder was a bit larger than I expected. I currently have the grinder sitting in the only section of counter space in the kitchen that does not have cabinets above it, and my wife does not like where it is located right now due to its height with the standard hopper. Once I have the short hopper and can fit it under the cabinets next to my machine, all will be good.

I have to say that I actually consider the K30 to be a good compact grinder option. It a cylinder, so it's wider than most commercial grinders by a few inches, but it's also shallower by a few inches as well (especially when you include the catch tray). The height without the hopper is very low. The hopper is very tall. This means you can easily cut the hopper to fit various heights, as long as you find a lid with the correct diameter. I cut mine to fit a regular size Compak hopper lid and it sat nicely under and 19" shelf (I have since moved the shelf, so thats my best guess) with enough clearance to fill the hopper without removing it.
The real treat with the K30 comes when you open it up...the details of its design and construction are quite marvelous.

SJPR: very similar post to mine. Have you gotten the R58? More beautiful in person than in pics ! I'm in a similar camp as you although I haven't narrowed down my list of grinder upgrades. Let me know which one you eventually buy. And thoughts on machine. Cheers!

I appreciate all your replies regarding my question. I have not responded to any of them because my 3 year old was sick with high fevers for the past four days. From what I have read any would be a good choice but the K30 seems as the best for a a 17 3/4" cabinet like mine.
