The capresso is a toy in comparison, power usage wise, I'm guessing.
Much less powerful motor, etc.
hmmm.

Well, if you're running more than 2 appliances...say one of them is a higher amperage eater, and you exceed 15 amps, that could be your problem

Is anything new in there since the problem started? new toaster oven/coffee brewer, etc...on the same line?

Sorry for your issues, and it IS strange that a completely different grinder would have the same issues.

The grinder's been on the same outlet since I moved in, the other outlet is either the TV or the Silvia depending on what I'm using, but obviously both are never running at the same time. The rest of the kitchen's outlets are free since everything else has its own breaker (fridge and stove). Grinding in the living room caused the same thing too, can't remember if that was in my first post or not. :)

I could only find about 1 - 2 amp draw for the Vario.

check for small droppings from the infamous espresso troll.  maybe small thunderclouds inside your hopper?

:|

sorry, got nothing.   definitely interested to hear if the new vario will take care of it, though.

Does anything come out the shoot?  It is like the beans are getting continually churned.  Are the burrs warm when you finish a grind?

Dave (lemans)..I'm a bit puzzled. In your other grinder thread, you complained that your Capresso wasn't grinding properly for Fr Press, and posted pictures.
That thread is not dissimilar to this thread. Makes me wonder.
You have 5-6 posts, something that normally triggers some doubts in those of us who have been around here a while.
Show me I'm wrong here please.

A small amount does, perhaps a lump about a hemispherical quarter. And yes, they're warm.

Wow, I'd actually completely forgotten about that. That was literally years ago; the grinder was fine and it was me that didn't realize that it was indeed working properly. My sister's actually got that grinder now and I bought another Infinity, but that's beside the point. I'm not too sure what you have to doubt from me; these threads aren't even remotely similar: me thinking the Infinity was not coarse enough vs. a Vario I've had for years suddenly starts seizing up and when sent a replacement the exact same thing happens. Don't worry, you're wrong. :)

Just a question. What if there is a problem with a partially stripped belt and pulley? What would have been the symptoms?

@Dave
In order to rule out any electrical problem, you can give a thorough cleaning of the grinder as Rob has instructed in this thread and try the grinder at a friend's house using the less oily and shiny beans.
