Posted Tue Feb 7, 2012, 8:34am Subject: Mazzer Mini-E vibrations
Hi everyone. I have been using my new Mini-E type B for about a month now, and I can't get over how much it vibrates. The lid on the funnel is quite noisy unless I put my hand on it, and even if I do there's still a gentle thrum. Anyone else experienced something similar with a Mini-E? Is this normal, or have I got a defective grinder?
I noticed that on the inside lip of the funnel, near where the lid rests, there's a tiny strips of adhesive foam that touches nothing and serves no obvious purpose. See the pic below. But maybe it's supposed to keep the lid from rattling, and is just in the wrong spot.
Good call. My lid has a snug fit without any type of padding. Curious, though, how a lid which is certainly machine-maunfactured could vary much in size. And why was there that padding on yours? It's as if they knew it was messed up and attempted to compensate in kind of a cheesey way. Good thing you have the 'B' model. The lid on the 'A' wouldn't be so simple to exchange. Let me know if a new lid solves the problem.
The answer is No, the replacement lid for the funnel makes no difference. It's exactly the same size as the other one, which is to say that it's too small and does not fit firmly on the funnel. So maybe it wasn't a batch of lids that were too small, but a batch of funnels that were too big.
I have the 'B' model, and mine does the exact same thing. The lid seems too small for the funnel and vibrates and rattles around when the grinder is on. I've put a small ring of neoprene around the lip of the plastic lid, which seems to help a little, but it's still noisier than I'd like. My Mini-E is from 2006 btw.
If I recall, the opening of my funnel is a bit oval in shape (shortest diameter is front to back). This causes the funnel to squeeze the lid at two points for a snug fit. I have the mini A I believe (wired lid with buttons on the top).
So, it might be worth giving the funnel a squeeze to hold the lid tight. My unit has no rattling
Oops too late! I sent them both back (my original and the replacement) and got a Ceado E37.
Edit: sorry for the short reply. So you're saying I should have tried bending the funnel into an oval to squeeze the lid? A reasonable workaround I guess, but I feel like the vibrating lid was a symptom of a larger problem, maybe something out of alignment or not properly balanced.
