I've heard from two different sources (one of whom is a vendor I trust) that the Baratza Maestro Plus will soon be discontinued and replaced with a model called the Encore. Don't have any other details yet, but maybe you all know more? If so, please share!
Iiiinteresting. Good thing I just bought a Maestro Plus... Knowing Baratza, though, they'll be ready to support it for years. I wonder if they're planning a product launch at SCAA this year.
I'm busy now but will post more later from the spec sheet. Looks like the Encore might sport the old Virtuoso burr set (judging by the listed description and grind speed) now that the Virtuoso has upgraded Preciso burrs...
Hello, I wanted to comment about the new burr-set we use in the Encore. This is an entirely new burr set for Baratza, it is not the old Virtuoso burr. In fact, in appearance it is more similar to the Preciso burr than the old Virtuoso burr. Performance wise, we set out to bring an entry level grinder that Baratza could stand behind as one for real espresso (not just for pressurized filter baskets) and also great press pot grind. I am sure these forums will let us know how close to this goal we are with the Encore. I just wanted to set the record straight before more speculation was floated about. Hi all. I stumbled across this thread while researching inexpensive burr grinders. I have a Silvia/Rocky as my main source of espresso. I am looking for a grinder to go wtih an aeropress, french press and drip machine. I know I could use the Rocky, but I would prefer to keep that dedicated and dialed into espresso. Is this sane or insane?
If I do buy a 2nd grinder, I dont plan to use it for espresso. Was looking at the Maestro Plus and the Capresso Infinity. I also now see the encore.
Any any thoughts and opinion are welcome. Thanks in advance.
I don't think that's insane. If you're not needing to adjust your Rocky very much, than it would make sense to get a dedicated grinder for regular brewing. For full disclosure, we don't carry the Capresso but I've used it and think it's a good grinder for the price. The Encore is an upgraded Maestro Plus at the same price ($129) and will be shipping out the end of this month. I've used a Maestro as my manual brewing grinder for over 2 years and have loved it. - Matt

+1. Not insane at all. I personally don't make espresso, but I would want a separate grinder dialed in for it if I did. The Baratza Encore sounds like a fantastic addition to the lineup. It has the updated gear box (quieter, more sturdy burr stabilization, added gear stripping protection), a new burr set that was compared to the Preciso burrs (better quality drip/coarse grinds), and the Baratza support. To me, it sounds like the best option based on price and the quality of the product.
