Ok so there are there star shaped pieces inside the doser. I have the top two pieces out but the bottom is being stubborn. Is that piece just pressed on?

Thanks

I just barely had my star pieces out - I retooled them for a perfect fit so it now sweeps extremely clean.  But I didn't take the bottom star out and it's been awhile since I had it out so my memory is kind of vague.  I believe you take the bottom plate off (two screws) and then you should see the head of the bolt that goes through the star and I think you simply take that bolt out and then you should be able to get the bottom star out.  Seems like this will involve reassembling the ratchet as well.

I have a Major and have run it doserless - tons of static unless you use the grid (or (I've made an anti-static grid from .009 guitar strings) but then you can't brush out the chute.  I much prefer having the doser - but modified so it sweeps cleanly.  Thwacking away at the doser while you grind gives me a totally fluffy dose that needs no special distribution at all (I do have a spout mod so it doesn't throw to the left).  I simply thwack away at the doser during the grind, give the PF one soft tap to make room for the last little heap of grounds in the center, then tamp straight down.  I get better pours doing this than with all the WDT and elaborate tamping routines.

Anyway ... hope that taking the plate off the bottom lets you see how to get the final star piece out.

Have you got the doser off the machine? To really clean it up and re-lube the whole thing needs to come apart (doser). There is a roll pin that needs to come out, and the gear on the bottom needs to be wedged with a screwdriver against the body before you put a ratchet on the the bolt.  Another words, leave the star on the top alone and take it apart from the bottom. When it goes back together, you need to back off the bolt to line up the roll pin and give it some clearance to turn smoothly. If your too aggressive with cleaning solutions, the aluminum can get rough so be careful. A new body gasket is a good idea on re-assembly; parts from Phaelon56 on ebay.

Yup it's off. The Major was box stock including the both switches on the doser. So first pea out of the dish I took the bottom off thing and figured out how to defeat and remove them. Is done all nice and neat with the parts in box should I want to put it back to stock. There is one little screw on the back right in the seam that goes through the housing and into the base of the doser. The thing was rounded when i got to it so looks like I will have work on that tomorrow with my dermal. I went ahead to tonight and pulled the window and cleaned the doser up pretty darn well. I will finish pulling it all the way down tomorrow. Since I am going to have to wait on parts I think i just go ahead and do the ejection port mod with the putty.
