Keep us posted on how you get on Paul.  I'm considering buying a Preciso from Coffee Angel myself soon.

I spoke with Baratza yesterday. I was offered a new grinder as a replacement or a repair part. I was willing to try installing a new adjustment ring  but when I explained that I needed to grind on 4 to get espresso fine, Pierce requested the machine back to find out what was wrong. I would be happier with no problems but the level of service is living up to it's reputation so far - I will update when the new grinder arrives.

Hope you're back in business soon then! About that, will they be shipping your replacement via UPS Ground, like usual?

Paul, you are a patient and understanding chap..industrious as well.
Your posts will, I'm sure alert others to learn a bit more about their grinders, no matter the brand.
I add my welcome to CG.

Question...did you begin your grinding experience with the Preciso set at 7?
Based on my own experience, I find that 9, with the Micro at K works exactly as does my Vario at Macro, 1 down from the top, Micro,1/3 the way up from the bottom. I realize it's apples and oranges, but in this case it's precisely (sorry LOL) within specs.
Interestingly, after doing 30 + #'s of drip/vac grind, and maybe 10 #s of espresso (in the Preciso) I haven't had to change the espresso setting, other than up or down 4-5 Micro clicks.
I wonder if, other than the possible manufacturing errors that have occurred, if a setting too fine for a normal espresso grind could be cause undue stress?

Regardless, there appears to be a few "growing pains" with the Preciso for a few folks, but as per usual, Baratza seems to be doing their best to correct the problems.

And in return, Baratza is lucky to have customers like you folks who realize stuff happens, and have been patient and understanding.
Hats off to you as well!

Yes - I have a UPS ground shipping tracking number - it left Redmond, WA this morning at 3 am.  I thought I might see it Friday but that would take some luck.

I think the service from ROASTe is strong too - Scott Lush from ROASTe did waive the standard 30 day return window to give me time to sort it out with Baratza - without that time cushion I would not be able to afford my current patience. ROASTe has been awesome with little issues that pop up - usually a mistake I helped to create - but they want a happy customer - of that I am sure.

Not trying to hijack the thread but I just picked up a preciso and seem to be having similar issues as described here. Upon opening the machine there was a loose piece of black plastic rattling around inside the grinder and I eventually got it to fall out. The grinder seems to be working fine but to grind fine enough for espresso I have the grinder at 3. Will this be an issue for me? Can this be changed by moving the screw mentioned above?

Hijack away - I did.

The black plastic piece sits on a spring and serves to make the clicking sound you hear when turning the hopper top while adjusting.  Where is the adjustment screw sitting right now on your adjustment dial?

How exactly do I open the grinder up? So far I have removed the ring burr. Do I need to take off the plastic feet and unscrew it?

Start by opening up the link below to the Preciso support page on the Baratza web site and read up on the ways to trouble shoot problems and how to open up and calibrate the Preciso.

Lots of pictures and easy to follow instructions in the pdf files there that explain it better than I can.
