Hey everyone.
Just ordered my Mazzer Mini refurbished from wholelattelove.com... and it was delivered today! Hooray? So in my first attempt at using it, the grind came out fine, except the bottom of my doser was still littered with coffee grinds. Is the doser wheel supposed to touch the bottom of the doser and sweep it every time you dose it with the lever? I'm guessing my wheel isnt touching the bottom of the doser. is this common or is it because I bought a refurbished one :(

This is a well known problem with Mazzer dosers - not sure if it is just limited to the Mini - it probably isn't.
In the commercial environment that dosers are designed for, it probably isn't an issue because of throughput volume, and the fact that the doser rarely gets empty during normal use. When you try to use them at home, things are different.
If you do a search on keywords "Mazzer" "doser" and "sweep", you'll find details of modifications people have made to improve the situation.
Don't think there is anything unusually wrong with your particular unit. That's just the way they are.

No, it is not the fault of a referb! I have 2 SJs and they both had the same problem.
The adjuster moves up and down by turning the nut in the center. If you unscrew it, you can remove the nut, washer, spring and the top of the star mech. I cut plastic "sweeper blades" from a bubble pack of something I bought once, you know those clear plastic packages that are impossible to open unless you take an ax to it! I cut the blades all the same size. The full width of the legs of the star and a little taller than the bottom star blades are. I put the wipers on the front side of the bottom star arms (the side that contacts the coffee first when operating the doser) then I replaced the upper parts and adjusted the mech to put pressure down on the wipers. Because they are between the upper and lower arm parts, they are held vertical and in place. Because they are taller than the bottom arms, the upper star will push them down into firm contact with the bottom of the doser floor.
I have been using these for a few years now and have never had to readjust them after initial setup. I only have them on 3 of the arms or every other arm and that is plenty for me. This method gives me a very clean sweep with only a few grains of coffee left undosed and does not have the gum or mess of using tape etc that many people use to get the doser to sweep clean.
Congrats on the grinder, you will enjoy it a lot!

Even the mighty Robur and K10 have the same issue. The Compak dosers are known for being a much closer sweep than Mazzer (and for not throwing left like Mazzers), however it's not perfect, and many still do the sweeping mods to it. I haven't done it on my K10 and just put up with vacuuming a bit of waste out of the bottom, but pretty much all dosers experience this to one extent or another. Mods aren't difficult for home use....I've just been to lazy to bother with it :)
Well, personally I find I waste no less coffee with doserless and a vacuum than with the doser....and I waste far more coffee with doserless and no vacuum than doser and vacuum :)
I'd be lost without my doserless in the mornings....I'd be lost without my doser in the evenings. They each have their place! The basket is definitely more easily "automatically" distributed out of the doser. There were moments, more with the K3 than the K8, where I was tempted to throw the grinds into the K10's doser, just to distribute it more evenly ;)

Looked up the sweeper mod. Do I have a different version of the Mazzer Mini? No flathead screw on top :( gotta go find some tools i rarely use to undo this baby. So much leftover grind that isn't swept up! :(

You don't need tools, there should be a knob in the center, the adjustment knob. Just keep turning it until it comes off. Done.
Jason, I have both and I find I use the moded doser 99.999%of the time. I don't loose more than a few crumbs a session. I can't stand being chained to a grinder! YMMV and for you and me, it does! LOL!!!!
