After 4 months of just so-so results with pre-ground, I finally ordered a Hario Skerton from Prima Coffee!  Not a bad price, 35 USD + shipping, around 9 bucks.  Should get here pretty quickly, as it's from Louisville, KY just south of here.  Will post my progress, and probably some annoying questions when I get it!  LOL

Good grinders are so important to brewing espresso - I'm glad yours is on the way.  I'm sure you will see immediate results from the freshness increase.

That price seems very good to me.  Maybe I'll have to look into hand grinders a bit more for a travel kit.  I would love to be able to bring my Aeropress with me and have freshly ground coffee.

It arrived today, in perfect condition..though the box was a bit wet.  LOL  Assembly and adjustment are quite intuitive, glad to see that, because the instructions are in Japanese.  To me, it's quite compact, and should be easy to hold while grinding.  Glad I didn't go for the mini.  It would probably fit better for travel than this one, but either is a nice compact size.
Actually it got here before I had a chance to get some whole bean!  Looks like I need to do some shopping.. yeha!  Definitely going to order some Black Pearl from Chris Coffee!

Thanks!  There seems to be quite a few good videos on the Skerton.  BTW I've fashioned a cover for mine to keep the beans from dancing out of the hopper.  Not a true lid, more of a deflector.  I'll post a pic or two when I get my camera batteries charged up.

I just bought the Hario Mini Slim.  I'm excited about getting it.  Thanks for the push in the right direction.

You will love it!  I got a 1/2 pound of some columbian supremo, not a great roast, but fresh and I remember really liking the taste.  First try, measured maybe a little shy of 1/4 cup of beans, maybe got it a tiny bit too coarse, because I got the double in about 17 seconds, and very little crema, but passable.  But ground WAY too much for one shot.  I don't have a scale, so I need to do some trial and error to determine the right dose.  But oh, my the taste...rich and smooth, like liquid velvet.  I am gonna have so much fun with this!!

Filling your basket with whole coffee beans, slightly heaped, may get you into the ballpark.

Otherwise, scales aren't prohibitively expensive.

Hey Kurt, this doesn't mean I still have to buy you a grinder if I win the lottery does it?  Figured I'd be off the hook since you ended up with a grinder anyways ;-)
