Has anyone seen or used one of these grinders its from Cimbali and called the Max Hybrid. Saw it on the Chris Coffee site and what it was telling about it, that it has a flat and conical bur grinder blades in a Cimbali Junior machine, and was wondering what the benefits of this type of set up would be.

Hi Gery,
With over 40 thousand registered members at CoffeeGeek, it seems likely that someone here has seen this grinder.

It's a great grinder -- but not for everyone.  It depends upon YOUR usage pattern(s).  But the biggest single improvement I ever made (in terms of equipment) to my espresso was upgrading from a Mazzer Mini to a Cimbali Max Hybrid.

The Max Hybrid seemed kinda on point with the Mazzer Kony taste wise and consistency wise during the TGP over on HB.

I think the biggest(and possibly only) downfall of the Max Hybrid is that you must you the grinder with the hopper at least somewhat full, there is no adding per dose with this grinder.

It seems that most large conicals prefer to be operated this way, though you can add per dose, it will just need a finer grind to compensate for the popcorning effect.  Since the Max Hybrid has almost no throat to the burrs, the beans just popcorn away.  I was bummed to say the least, the price for the quality it a great deal.

In the last 6 years of selling Mazzers, we have only experienced one defective grinder.-Jim Piccinich  1st-line Equipment, a Home-Barista Forum Post

This is my problem with upgradeIdtis. I've been looking at either the Macap M4 Stepless, Mazzer Mini for my first good grinder then I saw the Cimbali Max Hybrid. I've got a Gaggia Baby for now so I figured that I'd get a great grinder now so I won't need to upgrade it, then upgrade the Gaggia Baby to something like a Quick Mill Anita or something comparable to it.
