OK, I know, it's tacky to come in with a big open ended request on my first post.  I apologize.

I also know this topic has been covered but, it seems to have been years ago (based on search results) so I don't feel TOO out of line.

Anyway, thanks for your time up front.

I use a PIDed Silvia and a Rocky for espresso, which is an afternoon and weekend drink for me, and either an Aeropress (love the ease, hate the paper filter), a French Press or a vacuum pot to brew coffee for my miserable commute also using the Rocky.  I'm sure you can see where this is going.  Switching back and forth from espresso to the others in the same grinder is a pain.  Different beans, different grinds, the clean up....  Poor me, right?

Anyway, I was wondering what folks out there think is the best value in grinders to perform in the "other than espresso" catagory?

My criteria are two, I want a consistent grind and I want a decently long life (650-1000 grinds would be ok).  Can I get away with something like the Krups or Cuisinart?  Also, any good sources would be great.

Thanks for your time and if I am asking a question that has been answered, a nudge in the right direction would be great.

Hi Jeremy,

Welcome to the forum.

There is a similar string in which I provide a link to Alan Frew's grinder article:

http://www.coffeegeek.com/forums/coffee/machines/387399

I am afraid that the machines which you mentioned have what I call "pseudo burrs" and Alan refers to as barely burrs at all.

I think the Capreso Infinity or one of the Baratza machines are the minimum which you will find satasfactory.

Phil

Thanks guys.  I had a feeling that's what you guys would say.

I guess it's time to start looking at some Baratza options; I like the look of these machines.  Though, to be honest, I don't think the wife is going to want another coffee apparatus on the counter, so it will probably find another home.

Thanks again,

Jeremy.

By all means, go to the Baratza website and check out their refurbished machines. The switch to DC motors across their entire line a couple of years ago was an important upgrade.
