i really actually wanted to use the existing screws but they didn't match anything i could find. i think they are metric. when i couldnt match the existing screws exactly, i wanted to use the 6-32 but couldn't find matching screws. i ended up getting 8-32. i think the 8-32 is too big.
the drill bit and the tap come in a set. i had to buy a "tap wrench" to actually turn the tap. turn it like a 1/2 a turn forward then back a 1/2 then forward a 1/2 past when it bites again. then continue like this until you get through. this lets the bits of metal get out of the way so you can cut straighter, cleaner threads.
i wish i had practiced on something else first. my first hole is a bit crooked. a drill press would be ideal.

I half-completed this mod. I put the mazzer burr on the rotating part. My attempt to put it on the stationary surface failed: I couldn't get the shim to correctly line up and the grinder couldn't grind fine enough. So... For the last 2 weeks I have been using it with one mazzer burr and it works better than the original: It produces what I believe to be a more consistent grind for espresso which leads to less channelling and removes a bitter taste in the cup that I could never remove with the original KA. I'm still working on the mod in order to get the other burr mounted correctly, but it will take a new idea on how to make the burr seat properly.

No, slightly thinner & they have a larger o/d(center hole). Having owned a KA Pro since last October my advice would be to spend the $$ on a good Espresso grinder & save the KA for press pot or drip.
I know this is bringing up an old thread, does anyone have any tips for centering the burrs correctly. The step by step on the beaning of life web site is no longer about.

I just found this thread too, and am also curious. The link to the step by step is dead. I have an old Jericho grinder and am wondering if the mod can be done to it. It has a cool antique look to it and would be great if it worked well too. Good eye candy and converstional topic at my coffee shop.
