because the top hole has nothing behind it. due to the triangular 3-hole pattern and the U shaped space it was going into there is no position available that had all the holes with metal behind them.

The fact that you learned to use a tap watching American Chopper is classic! I don't know how to use one either, but it cracks me up that you learned from AC. Great "How To." Thanks! I bought a KA proline for my brother in law for Christmas--I'll upgrade it for him this Christmas!

Wow, your step by step is soooo cool! I've a KA Proline grinder that I almost want to give away to a relative but now I'm thinking of keeping it and doing the upgrade but it depends on the time involved, the difficulty and the money I've to spend. How much about does the Mazzer Mini burrs cost and how much time do you think it would take a novice to do the mod? Also, after the mod, is the grind similar to the ones from a Mazzer Mini?

The most important is taste, so, after the mod, did the coffee taste similar to one ground from a Mazzer Mini?

it took about 20 minutes and i dont have much experience. i used normal tools the tap and drill bit $9 mazzer burrs for me were $15 used but they are $34 new.
the taste? its probably better than a stock KA but i didnt use it recently. i think it is an improvement for sure though when you look at the lameness of the KA stock burrs.

Thanks, Jon. 20 mins. sounds short - it would probably take me double that since I don't know what 'tap' is. The investment on the burrs is minimal (I guess I can order them from Mazzer directly?) and IF the grind is comparable to a real Mazzer Mini, then, that would be fantastic since the total cost is less than half of a Mazzer Mini.
