As a rookie to coffee roasting I have been updating my equipment as I can afford it.  I received my Rancillio Rocky a few days ago and what a superb job at grinding it does.   Can I taste the difference?  A resounding YES!  I brewed a cup of Kenya Kiamaina this morning and on the first sip I was overwhelmed with the taste and fragrance of blueberries.  Never in my wildest dreams thought my palate was sophisticated enough to detect subtle variations like this.  The same coffee ground with the whirly blade grinder does not taste the same - just acidic brightness is all I can detect.   Yes, buy the best grinder you can afford.  It makes a positive difference...

We've all been saying this for years, & especially Mark P when Coffeekid, & Coffeegeek came into existence.

I've posted this many times, Marks' Mantra to follow: Click Here (www.coffeegeek.com) When there, follow the link.

More, just Click Here (www.coffeegeek.com)

Mark's mantra is & alwas was , "It's better to have a great grinder & a lesser espresso machine, than a great espresso machine & a lesser grinder".

This meaning that you can & will produce better espresso more consistently the 1st way than the 2nd way, hit & miss & producing dreck. {;-)

Wish Mark or Wayne would collect all these epiphanies/testimonials into one thread just for the new hardheads* who don't want to believe us.

It's not that they don't want to believe. Heck, if I saw a shiny new and sexy looking Grimac La Valentina sitting next to a stodgy, and decidedly unsexy, looking Mazzer Super Jolly, I'm not sure which I'd buy first, even knowing what I know now. It's difficult to control that little rat in each of us that says throw common sense aside & get what's sexy, even if it's not what we need.

Simply that, even though one understands the mantra, it's sometimes difficult to heed it when upgradeitus hits. Verstehen?
