Posted Thu Aug 23, 2007, 6:39am Subject: You guys and gals are correct! A good grinder is essential equipment
As a rookie to coffee roasting I have been updating my equipment as I can afford it. I received my Rancillio Rocky a few days ago and what a superb job at grinding it does. Can I taste the difference? A resounding YES! I brewed a cup of Kenya Kiamaina this morning and on the first sip I was overwhelmed with the taste and fragrance of blueberries. Never in my wildest dreams thought my palate was sophisticated enough to detect subtle variations like this. The same coffee ground with the whirly blade grinder does not taste the same - just acidic brightness is all I can detect. Yes, buy the best grinder you can afford. It makes a positive difference... It's not that they don't want to believe. Heck, if I saw a shiny new and sexy looking Grimac La Valentina sitting next to a stodgy, and decidedly unsexy, looking Mazzer Super Jolly, I'm not sure which I'd buy first, even knowing what I know now. It's difficult to control that little rat in each of us that says throw common sense aside & get what's sexy, even if it's not what we need.
Yeah, god knows I've (& others) have posted that particular one enough times for the noobies/hardheads! {;-)

True enough Tex, but what you just said has got nothin' to do with the mantra I quoted above...{:-|
