I was at a party - a  gathering of motorcycle enthusiasts (mostly professionals riding mostly BMWs). They were talking about baby names. I told the story:
"I had friends who met in college. They were African Americans and both were geology majors. They graduated with doctorates. While in college they fell in love and shortly after graduation they married. A couple of years later they had twin girls and named them Metamorphia and Conglomeria."
It got real quiet, and there were a lot of bewildered looks. Someone asked, "Really!?"
"Uhh... No."

I often think about paying homage to certain things in my kids names, but then I think about how they may not share the love and their peers may find it a point of contention. Just think about all the ridiculous names out there (ex. La-a ).

Anything coffee that ends in 'tra , 'ta

robusta
sumatra

you get the drift. Although I concur with Dayglow about setting up a child for ridicule based on their name.  Hard enough when you are a kid dealing with normal stuff than having to also deal with bullies and namecalling.

Of all the names I have seen on this thread so far, Sanani has the nicest sound to it.  Very feminine sounding, great for a girls name.

enlighten me: sofia is in reference to. . .

sophia is crazy popular right now, although a beautiful name. i initially thought of: jasmine, electra, linnea, crema, bloom, and kaldi (the goat herder who legend says discovered coffee). . . "tape recorder" is probably not the best name for a kid, but we may do something a bit creative. being 1 of 3 "jennifers" in a classroom is also not the greatest gift.
