Sidama

After the leading coffee producing region in Ethiopia - the birthplace of our beloved beverage. And a fitting name for the birth of a child.

I often think about paying homage to certain things in my kids names, but then I think about how they may not share the love and their peers may find it a point of contention. Just think about all the ridiculous names out there (ex. La-a ).

When I named my son (Kyle) my main thought was to pick a name we like and that it would be extremely unlikely he'd ever dislike or resent.

If you can find a lovely girl's name that also is related to coffee, great.
But I'd make the coffee part a very secondary consideration.

Kids will make fun of other kids no matter what name you choose, but as others have said, you don't want to set yours up for it by picking something too odd or something clearly showing you ignorance.

In contrast to Randy's story, I'm going to tell you a true one. A friend's sister worked for the LA County records department and had someone choose the name Syphilis for her newborn baby girl. This really is a true stoiry...I mean, who can make this up, right? Anyhow, the new mom had seen the name in her medical chart and though it sounded pretty, so she picked it for her baby. She pronounced it sy-phyllis. Fortunately my friend's sister told her what it meant, so the new mother changed her mind.

Here's another one. I have a cousin who named one of her kids Ezra.  Remember that band "Better Than Ezra"?

It's a pretty easy setup, right? There's been some really good suggestions so far...but I wouldn't choose Silvia, simply for the fact that the Rancilio Silvia is mediocre and there are much much better machines out there.

I like Sidana, that was a great suggestion in my opinion and it sounds pretty. Of course, I have no idea what the translates to in English, so maybe it's something stupid like "flat rock". I'd check into things like that before selecting a coffee-based name. I've never liked the sound of the name Esmeralda, but that's just me, and it's otherwise a great choice based on the respect and high quality it has in the coffee world.

Yeh I agree with emradguy, 99% of what's listed so far is setting the kid up for a brutal early life lol, picking on someone for a name will happen, but someone named with what's listed in this thread will get it 10x worse. Don't want your kid to end up spiteful of you for the name you gave them lol.

Of all the names I have seen on this thread so far, Sanani has the nicest sound to it.  Very feminine sounding, great for a girls name.

Sure, the child could practice writing her name, right to left.  San'ani.  Don't forget a breath mark.
