Hi guys, mind taking a quick look at the Cafelat tamper attached?

The tamper I got here in Singapore has this strange unsightly rough ridge at the top 1/3 of the tamper and all the pohot s i've browsed over the web thus far do not have this "new feature".

Do you guys think its a counterfeit? Or Manufacturing defect?

It looks like a mold parting line. I doubt there is any money in counterfeiting tampers but ???

does it really matter?  if it fits your basket well and feels good in your hand then you're golden.

If you want to buff out the defect.  Use increasingly finer grades of sandpaper up to 600, then move to micro mesh (if you can find it) going up the line until you get the finish you want.  If you can't find micro mesh look for a CD/DVD repair kit (the kind they sell at consumer electronics stores for restoring scratched discs).
