I'm new to the coffee game so to speak. I love my coffee and probably drink way too much of it but don't we all.
I've been pricing out grinders, espresso machines, etc and the one thing I've notice is that there seems to be a pretty significant difference in prices from place to place. I don't think I've ever seen such a large difference between the different retailers for the same gear. As anyone else noticed this?
Aside from the "gourmet" chains that try and charge list on the one hand, and the Indonesian rip-off/scam sites on the other, pricing seems pretty stable on the standard stuff every time I've looked. What kinds of variations are you talking about and on what gear (remember, you don't need to list who's pricing what at what, just the piece of gear and the price range you're seeing)?
For instance, on a Super Jolly I've seen price differences between $50 and $100 from one site to another and I'm talking legitimate stores. And don't even get me started on eBay. People are crazy on there in regards to new equipment. Its a lot cheaper the majority of the time to buy from a legitimate retailer. In fact just google Super Jolly and look at the google shopping results.
I've seen it on grinders and all kinds of espresso machines. I'm not complaining as people can charge what they want, but I've just never noticed this before in my years of online shopping. Sure sometimes things will be priced differently from place to place, but it seems to me like the variations are much higher in this industry than I've noticed in others. It's just an observation.
