I had been searching for a used OE Lido to work with my press pot. Today that happened, as a BIG bonus, I also got a Mypressi twist in the deal. Needless to say, I am super excited to get my hands on both of them.
So is anyone here using this specific combination? I am a complete noob, any settings that you would suggest starting out with? I've researched the mypressi a bit, but the entire world of espresso is new to me.
Until my gear shows up, I will be forced to run down to the local coffee shop and drink espressos as "research" in developing my taste buds.
Great score, the Lido should be a perfect match for the Twist. I've got my Twist with a little stepped hand-grinder that makes it hard to dial in the flow. I've actually considered picking up a Lido to go with my kit (it wasn't available when I got my Twist).
The twist basket seems to like doses from 18 to 22 grams and you'll want to pre-heat the reservoir with boiling water before the pull, but it's pretty easy to use and pretty easy to get good shots. As for grind settings, I found a setting of 5/16 from zero for the Lido I got to try out for a week worked well with the Twist. When you grind with the Lido for espresso, some of the fines will cling to the grinder. You can try RDT and add a drop of water to your coffee before grinding to eliminate static, try and brush it off, or not worry too much about it.
RDT is the Ross Droplet Technique that's been recently discussed on Home-Barista. David Ross is credited with suggesting adding a drop of water to your coffee before grinding to eliminate static in 2005 on Alt.Coffee. A variation, if you're worried about added moisture in your grinder is to use a damp finger to add moisture to your grinder exit chute which seems also to be effective.
