Hey guys, I am a barista and am also a college student, and thus I am writing a paper on espresso machines. Specifically, I'm reviewing the La Marzocco Linea 2 group automatic. As part of the paper I need to interview someone about the product, so I though I would open a post and ask the question. "If you wanted to purchase that most comparable machine to this one, what would it be?"

In addition to the Slayer over at Barista Parlor, some of the other cafes might be of use:
- Crema: a La Marzocco GB5 - Dunn Bros: not sure, but they'll likely answer if you ask on twitter - The Well: Looks like a Linea - Bongo Java: GB/5 - Fido: FB/80
I'm not 100% sure, but based on the outward appearance this is what I think the list looks like
Some of the others seem to use other brands (Frothy Monkey=Rancilio, Ugly Mugs=NS, ...), and I'm not sure about Dose, Roast Inc, or others.
Not the answer you're looking for though - sorry! If I were to look for similar machines, I'd survey similar class (capacity, power) and then look at specifics around comparable thermal characteristics and pressure profiles wherever info can be dug up. For interviews, I'd try some of these places unless you've got some La Marzocco-using shops closer by.
