Breville isn't making a suitable pod holder for their new BES840XL machine. They suggested finding a "universal 54mm pod holder," but so far, I haven't been able to find one.
I've searched for 54mm pod holders and also looked for machines with 54mm portafilters, but that didn't work. I've also called several "specialty" vendors," but no luck there, either.
If you have any idea what brand/model has a 54mm portafilter and might have a pod adapter/holder accessory, PLEASE let me know!
I think that someone, like Krups with so many models, must have a 54mm pod holder that could fit my Breville. Unfortunately, I can't search by portafilter size because this spec isn't listed for most low to mid-range models that might use the size that I need. All I could find were lists of models, but nothing indicating portafilter size.
I have to find this, so my espresso challenged wife can have her AM latte! I MUST keep her happy! YOU know what I'm saying here!
Please help!
(be assured, I grind fresh beans each time I make coffee for myself)

This is for the Senseo but you might be able to rig up something like this for her, not a pod basket but it might help. If you made them the right size, you might get away using your stock basket ????? YMMV!

I've been calling the various "consumer" machine manufacturers' (Krups, DelonghiUSA) customer support and there's been no suitable substitute, so far.
Thanks for posting your suggestion, calblacksmith, but it doesn't seem that the Senseo part would work properly.
I had even wondered if placing a pod in the single shot pressurized filter might produce a somewhat acceptable result, but that idea was shot down by the Breville rep that I spoke with.
Still, I wonder if anyone has ever tried this as an experiment?

What did the rep have against doing it? At the least, you could use pods as a pre-mesured volume of ground coffee to use in the PPF. Tamping really is not a big deal with the PPF as the PF restricts the water flow, not the coffee bed.
Most pods are not fresh but you knew that, try dumping two pods in a PPF for a double shot. I know the wife really does not want to fuss with things but running the grinder isn't such a hard thing to do. For tamping you might want to consider a tamping machine. I use the Press Point and am very happy with it, my tamping is always flat and consistent regardless of my mental state in the morning. They are fairly pricy though but if you watch flea bay, craigs list etc you may get lucky, that is how I got mine, on flea bay for $100 New look here, http://www.espressoparts.com/PRESSPOINT_1

Truthfully, the simplicity of the pods made it work for my s/o. No measuring, no tamping...just insert pod and go.
Once "ground" coffee enters the picture the whole process changes, so that's why I've been making a determined effort to find a suitable pod solution.
I've reached the point where I now realize that I'm not going to find an adapter that will do the job. So, after taking a pause to regroup my thinking, I'm going to open the box and set up the new Breville BES840XL with a plan to encourage my s/o to learn to use "real" coffee.
Although, it isn't the best method, I'll pre-grind some coffee for her to use and, as suggested by the Breville rep, I'll have her use a pressurized filter. That won't be perfect, but certainly should be better than the result using a pod.
Once she masters preparing her morning latte this way, I think that she just might be drawn into improving her "game."
