Your post got me thinking about something....I know this is coffeegeek, but should we be this passionate about coffee? Like, I feel like the only reason I am "passionate" about coffee is because I had bad coffee all my life. But let's take people in other parts of the world that have real coffee and real espresso everyday but to them its nothing to be passionate about. It is just the "norm" there. Also, this has been floating around my head today a lot because my brother said to me " why do you have to be so fancy with all your coffee junk". I didn't respond, but all I could think about was...there isn't anything fancy about it. It just making coffee the right way.

Other parts of the world, that I try to emulate (Italy, France, Spain) take food/bread/wine/coffee/cheese very seriously. It is not fancy, it is just the best/fresh/seasonal/non processed stuff I can find/make that I choose to consume. Really, I don't see the point of eating tasteless stuff, for one thing if it tastes like nothing it probably has no real nutrition. Like store bought winter green house tomatoes compared to summer home grown. I believe my hens eggs taste more "eggy" because my hens eat grass, bugs and I eat the eggs within days of them being laid. Store bought eggs look pale and anemia next to mine and don't really taste like much. I believe that taste is vitamins and nutrients and that is why the fresh food tastes good. I believe if they were tested my eggs would have more omega 3 oils as well from the girls eating more of what nature intended hens to eat. (the big difference between farm raised salmon and wild is what they eat)
Sadly, I think most people in this country have forgotten what real food tastes like. Cheese comes in a spray can, meat comes in Styrofoam and coffee comes in a paper cup.

Parts of my family love or don't drink my coffee. To the members who love it they can tell the difference of how good my coffee really is; They can't even drink the coffee they serve at work because they know its sooo bad. To the member that don't drink my coffee its because they don't like drinking anything hot or they still believe the myth that coffee makes you short. To the random people who criticize about my coffee methods. They are the tim horton (dunking donuts for you americans) drinkers. As well there the type of people who believe starbucks is the best. As ignorant as I sound I just tell myself that I have better class and taste than others and their opinions do not bother me. If they can't drink good coffee they don't have class or taste buds for that matter.
