It has been just over 4 years with the GS/3 and Kony. Yesterday, I retired the faithful Kony to a new home, and today, welcomed the Vulcano into the family. Initial thoughts after fiddling around for about an hour:
- Fast. 4.95 seconds for my standard double shot. Same motor, same burrs as old, so I am guessing its the new burrs. Mind you, I don't remember the Kony ever being this fast even when new. Never timed it, but maybe 12 seconds with the dosered Kony. I just remember thinking "it's a bit slow", even for home use towards the end, but neither did I feel the need for Robur speed. - Convenient. I am not bothering to brush out after each shot. I'll just purge a few seconds to clean out the old grinds. - Taste. Not a fair comparison being the burrs are so new, but the shots were at least comparable to the Kony. - Mess: If I am even 0.05 seconds off, the grinds spill over into the nooks and crannies of the machine. I rarely made a mess with the dosered Kony. With variations in bean freshness, humidity, blend, etc., I figure I'll set the timer to underdose a bit, and use the manual override button to top up since I'm not pulling shots all day long. - Sound: This is my first experience with an E/doserless grinder. I love the gentle whirr of the automatic fan that comes on after grinding a dose.
