Has anyone tasted McDonald's coffee, how does it compare to Starbucks. I know it would be cheaper, but is there really a comparison?

I know you mention McDonald's being a threat to Starbucks, but how?, can you explain?.  One of the many arsenal that Starbucks has over McDonald's is ambience.

I have tried other name brand coffee shops: Peet's & Coffee Bean, and I am still fond of Starbucks.  Any comments?

I would say ambience depends on the crowd.

I had my first McCafe this morning.  No I'm not proud of it, but I got to my early morning client appointment early, and the McD was right there in the next parking lot.

That time of morning had an interesting mix of people.  But bottom line I saw bout 15 people go through the line ordering.  12, got a McCafe of some sort.  If you told the people at McD that their espresso drinks taste like crap compared to what you get at a top class cafe they would laugh...all the way to the bank I bet.
