Recently, I was listening some podcast about coffee.

Due to my poor English, I cannot be sure what I was listening and how to understand it.


A little seperately, I heard two sentences,

  1. Now, American people is influencing the Italian baristas or coffee professionals;

  2. Italian coffee brewing quality is going down.

If I simply put them together, how can I understand it?

I think that to some extent that is true. A number of advances in technology have begun in the US and that has lead to things like PID equipped machines.  A number of US retailers have worked directly with Italian manufacturers to create espresso machine improvements and grinder improvements as well. Not just little improvements, but complete models that would not have existed if it had not been for teh US market and the espresso enthusiasts driving that market.

As far as the quality of coffee... Couldn't say with any degree of accuracy, but I think that the chance of getting a straight espresso that is drinkable is far better in Italy than in the US.  it has to be.. the chance on the US is probably less than 1 in 30.
