I've produced a review of Inny's book at http://www.coffeeco.com.au/newsletter/may2008.html . Since there are so few new coffee books published (and virtually none outside of the USA) I figured that it was best done by someone who at least had an idea of the conditions that produced the book. I know that the Melbourne/Sydney thing will be opaque to USA readers, so think Seattle/New York as a comparison.
Note 2 things:
1) I have no commercial interest in the book whatsoever and 2) You can read sample chapters and purchase hardcover or electronic .pdf versions of the book at www.espressoquest.com . Amazon also has it as a KINDLE (whatever that is) version.

Nice, albeit short, review Alan. The Sydney / Melbourne aka Seattle / NYC reference is very helpful. In NYC they've been doing espresso probably longer than anyone else in N. America, but as you well know, Seattle folks think at times they invented the market ;)
But one point of disagreement - this year there's been a good number of books published on coffee - more than any other year I remember. Not pictured in that link are the Scott Rao book and the God in my Cup book...

Hi Alan Thanks for the review. In response, I confess there are some Sydney centric views but that is a reflection of where I have come from. In the 1980's as a 20-something newby coffee guy I couldn't travel that much out of Sydney.
But I stand by the statement that in the 1980's espresso was still 'relatively new' to MOST consumers (outside the Italian community) even in Melbourne. As an example Mike Del Zoppo of Diamond Services back then was still manufacturing commercial drip coffee machines and although he was at the heart of the Italian espresso machine movement in Melbourne it was only during this time that his machine business transitioned to being espresso based. No apologies for the 'advertorial' tone. Hopefully the insights into the global complexities of espresso including North America, outweigh this.
