I  Start bucks, but my wife loves them and has a Duetto card.
I roast my own beans and make espresso with my Gaggia super auto. She won't touch the stuff I make.
Today, a package came- it was a 1lb bag of "bold" Espresso beans. Why did it come? Must be a surprise gift form the struggling starbucks empire.I thought of what I should do- if I made a mocha at home with it, would my wife drink it? Probably not.
I usually run low on beans on friday and roast fresh beans on saturday. I was thinking roasting up some tanzania peaberry -hmmm!
Then I looked at the bottom of the bag and saw the price "$10.45" and I thought, "what the heck? The economy sucks, inflation is everywhere and fuel is going up a everyday. I might as well drink this stuff!"
Fresh roasted beans or Starbucks? I think it is similar to drinking fresh squeezed orange juice or orange juice from concentrate.

And so it goes...

Out of curiosity what kind of roaster do you own?  I have yet to take the "leap" into roasting however it interests me greatly!  I would appreciate any feedback you could give.  Thanks for your time.

Sincerely, Kel

I use a IRoast 2. I think the difference between fresh roast and store roast is like  fresh squeeze and concentrate Oj. They both taste like OJ, but the fresh stuff has some extra flavours to it.

Homeroast v Starbucks, that's a no-brainer, I'd be putting the Starbucks in my compost heap!!!
I home roast on a Corretto (heatgun/breadmaker) and it is brilliant and very economical to set up.

Toss it on the compost heap? Well, I thought of that too! I akso thought of mixing some fresh roast with it, but then thought, naw !

I used to buy concentrate OJ and squeeze a few fresh oranges into it.
Times are tight, so I thought I'd use it.I do have a feeling that I'll get tired of it by 1/2 lb  and do some roasting!
Before throwing away the box, I noticed a card in the box. It said that they were sorry for the mix u on the card and the bag was a gift.
I asked the wife to eleborate. she said she went to use the duetto part and it was declined even though it should have  been approved( there was credit on her account). As a eace offering, they sent the beans.
Also worth noting- I participate in e-rewards and starbucks is a new reward. I redeemed some points for a $25 Starbucks card. Well, when you are traveling, it will come in handyplus I use it in the computation of my vacation.
