My only comment is that they've taken the rather bold step (for a large company) to use 100% Fair Trade coffee for their espresso blend to be used in those, uh... sigh, Schaerer machines. That's nothing but good news for the coffee community.
I seem to have mixed feelings about this topic. While I agree in the sense that overall it may be good for the industry and awarness of espresso, I do have reservations about this comment in the article:
"Still, customers will not find specially trained baristas or a change in Dunkin’ Donuts’ simple countertop atmosphere"
While I'm not trying to say that espresso has to be had in a cafe to be enjoyed, I am disturbed that it appears they won't have trained baristas pulling shots. The last thing we need is poor espresso being served. We already have way too much mediocre espresso around. As for the ambiance of a Dunkin Donuts, while it may not be a sidewalk cafe at the piazza Narvonna, but that is less of an issue than quality. Mike

I don't think that the general quality of espresso in this country could get any worse. I'm so disappointed every time I go in a cafe and the staff hasn't a clue and couldn't care less.

Hey, not only does it beat Starbucks in both taste and price, it exposes Starbucks as the low quality high priced outfit that it is. Bravo for Dunkin' Donuts!

Interesting topic. I did not even know that they started offering this. But, I also cannot remember the last time I was in a Dunkin’ Donuts (to buy Donuts). Never mind coffee. Like that will ever happen...
I agree with all comments here. True, true...
I went into a Coffee/Espresso shop here in NJ the other day. Sad, sad, sad... Undrinkable coffee, espresso, cappuccino, tea... You name it, it was BAD.
It is very rare that I buy/have any type of Coffee outside of my house. But, I heard this was a good place for Coffee. WOW... Sad, sad, sad... And, that is supposed to be a good place.
Back to drinking Coffee only @ home. I just cannot handle ANY Coffee made in any shop or restaurant. I gave up trying about 4 years ago...

Well, I guess I was feeling real stupid this week. Went into a local Starbucks. No shortage of that garbage in the NY/NJ-area. I stress the word garbage. Pathetic stuff, they make. What they try to pass off as "coffee" is unreal.
Unfortunately, the dummying of America continues...

I almost hate to post anything else supporting Starbucks, but so far my experiences have not been nowhere near as bad as some people in this forum would have you belive.
Maybe everyone else in the world lives has there own Cafe'D Arte or Vivace in their basement? Or maybe Starbucks is just a good target for bashing, and becoming part of the "Coffee Elite", and I think I fell into that for a while.
If I had my choice between a GOOD localy owned shop and a Corporate giant like Starbucks, I would pick the little guy. But I'll not support some crappy local shop,if the coffee is terrible (and it usually is).I wont go into Doubles being pulled from Single bskets, nasty steam wands etc.
But you know, those Starbucks employees sure are silly. Why I was just in there the other day, and I ordered a single..opps I mean Solo Espresso. Well I asked the girl I she could pull the shot straight into the cup.
One of the other employees asked if it was to drink there or to go. "Well I'd like it for here, but why does it matter?"
Because we have ceramic espresso cups we can use. Holy Cow!! Cups, real cups at Starbucks? Who would have thought, and goodness what is that barista doing? Why she is actually preheating the cup with hot water, and it just gets more confusing when the cup is handed to me. Hmm, looks like about an ounce of espresso, crema which should not exist (right?) and where is that trademark "charcoal" flavor?
If anything the shot was simply not as intense as I would have liked, maybe that is due to the Super Auto, maybe it just wasn't a good day for espresso.

I had the absolutely worst cappuchino of my life the other day. From a Starbucks in a movie theater. It was so bad I brought it back and got a regular cup of coffee.
That was when I had the worst cup of coffee in my life.
On the way home I had to get rid of that taste because the popcorn didn't quite do it, so I stopped at DD and got one of their new espressos. Ya know, it wasn't too bad. As a matter of fact, it was better than several Starbucks I have been to.
