Subject: Espresso club with reasonable shipping?

Dear co-geeks,

I am looking for one of the "tried and true" roasters that offers an "automated" bi-weekly shipping option for roasted espresso with a reasonable discount over a one-off order. Red Bird used to offer this, but not any longer (they have stopped a while ago). I buy 5lb bags from them now, but it is time to look for an alternative.

Ideally the cost should be no more than $15/pound shipped.

Any suggestions?

:-)

Counter Culture offers a subscription and gives a discount if you subscribe

Might go down to around $15 with shipping, although its 12oz, not 1lb.  Maybe worth a look.

If you order 2 12oz bags from intellegensia they offer free shipping. I haven't looked into the club price and I know they offer a recurring subscription. The 12 oz bags of black cat are $15.

Allow me to do some math for you. $15 for 12 oz. = $1.333 per oz. ($15 / 12). This is, for sure, not a bad price for premium coffee - but it is NO deal. You might want to check out the prices offered by other roasters including shipping per oz.

True, one must go all the way through the delivery options and then calculate the total cost. worldman's site has two pounds for $27.00 plus $8.00 for standard shipping, total of about $35.00, or $17.50/pound delivered. That's not bad considering my local roasterie, Dawson's, gets roughly $13.00/pound for their espresso and I go pick it up. Another shop in town sells Stumptown for $14.00/lb but that includes their shipping costs from Portland OR.
vivace ran their online ordering for several years with a typo--I paid $11.00 each for two 8 ounce bags plus $5.00 shipping for about a year, $27.00/pound.

We've got three or more local roasters and several corporates like D'Arte; the going rate for excellent espressos here in Boise ID is $12-18/pound.

I play go. I use Macintosh,. Of course I ride a recumbent.

I still think ordering 2 lbs from a roaster with reasonable shipping like redbird or dodd is the best value. If you order 2 12oz bags from intelligensia or counter culture at around $15 a piece, it'd be about the same as 2lbs from Dodd or redbird with shipping. Then you're getting a 1/2 pound more coffee, if my math is correct.
I hate 12 oz bags. they suck. sell it by the pound.

Paradise seems to have reasonable shipping as well.
I do like Red Bird as well.
Have not tried Dodd.

Thanks for the suggestions!

Red Bird has gone up on their prices a little, the last order I got from them was 11.99 per 1 lb bag plus shipping now it's 12.49 per lb. but I'll still buy from them since I like their Red Bird blend but I'm thinking of getting a 5 lb bag on my next order.

5Lbs is cheaper by the pound, obviously, but I've had a hard time with the freshness last 2 lbs when I've gone that route. Unless your buying for an office or having a party, you have to be throwing back 15 or 20 shots a day to get through that before it starts to fade.
Not saying that 15- 20 shots is too much...just sayin'...
