My coffee drinking is almost exclusively espresso, but I do miss the flavor of a fruity Ethiopian coffee from time to time.  Importing and roasting is not an option for me because I live in a coffee producing region (Big Island, Hawaii) and importing of Ethiopian green beans is illegal because of some potential pest or disease problem that could affect local coffee crops.  So, anyone know of where I can find a roasted espresso blend that features this flavor?  Never found one myself.

Also, can anyone tell me what produces that distinctive ethiopian flavor?  I have tasted some coffees grown in the Ka'u district of Hawaii that have a very similar flavor to ethiopian, but others from farms practically next door do not.

Have you tried Sweetmarias.com?  I buy their Ethiopian blend to roast at home. They offer different roasted blends for espresso all the time. Does not hurt to ask.

I'm like you - I LOVE a fruity Ethiopian coffee. It wouldn't hurt to try a single origin espresso roast of an Ethiopian bean for espresso. Sometimes a good single origin espresso can shine. I know you might not expect to find one here, but there is a real gem of a roastery in Laramie Wyoming called Coal Creek Coffee (www.coalcreekcoffee.com). I discovered them when I was traveling through there and have been ordering from them since. If you're not opposed to spending a bit more for  90+rated coffee, they have an excellent Ethiopian Nekisse COE. I've never actually tried it as an espresso, but as a coffee, it's one of the best I've had in a while.

Good luck, and let me know if you've come across another "fruit-bomb" you'd like to recommend!

I've had great success with Ethiopian Harrar as SO espresso.  Some of the 2013 Yirgacheffes are amazing!  I'd say sweet maria's is your best bet but it looks like their roasted Ethiopian is out of stock.  Intelligentsia's Ethiopian sounds really tasty!  They may ship to you.

Check out the Ethiopian Sidamo Adem Chilcho, the Ethiopian Yirgacheff Wote Konga, and/or even the "straight" Ethiopian Sidamo "RFA" from Red Bird Coffee.

I really liked the Worka from Ceremony - Blackberry jam and floral aromatics. Strawberry candy and guava in cup, with delicate grape acidity.

Hi Everyone:

Just wanted to jump in and let you know about Metropolis Coffee Co.'s current single origin espresso.

It's a natural process Ethiopia Yirgacheffe Gelana Abaya.  It's rich and chocolatey, but you also get some deep berry notes.  Check it out! click here
